Thermodynamics

Westford Academy, Grades 11-12

This project will use a Stirling Engine to demonstrate the principles and applications of thermodynamics.

Bright Ideas Minigrants

Yolanda Rigali

Westford Public Schools, Grades 3-6

This project will provide awards to students in Grades 3-6 school-wide as part of the 'Bright Ideas MiniGrant Program'. This program is modeled after the mini-grant program the WestNET Partnership runs but targets students with creative & innovative ideas.

ECM2

Victoria Staley

Day School, Grade 5

The ECM2 project is a school/home project studying the ecosystem. Students will make observations and collect data on a monthly basis regarding the make-up of their home & school habitats and relationships amongst organisms found in each habitat. This project will purchase research tools such as nets, field guides and stereoscopes to capture and observe animals, insects and plants found in these ecosystems.

Digital Replay

Elaine Pietras, Bill Cody, Mark Miller

Westford Academy, Grades 11-12

This project will procure a digital video tape player to complement the digital video recorders at the school. The player will help offset the demand on the recorders and help the students edit their video productions

Freehand Drawing with Graphic Tablets

Sioban Morris

Blanchard Middle School, Grades 6-8

This project will obtain graphic tablets to be incorporated into the middle school art curriculum. This equipment will be used in conjunction with a digital camera and scanner purchased on a WestNET grant last year. Together this equipment is used to for particular grade-specific products.

Nick Wild, Ken Bogacz

Millenium, Grade 3-5

This project will develop a collection of CD's of traditional music from around the world to create a 'Music of the World Library' for the school. Students and teachers will be able to check-out the CDs to be incorporated into individual projects or for classroom learning.

Burn Baby Burn

Pamela Perron, Ken Bogacz

Millennium, Grades 3-5

This project will procure a CD-burner and labeling machine that will be used to support the development of student electronic portfolios. Students will be able to store all their electronic projects on their own CD and share them with their family and other students. Electronic products will include Hyperstudio presentations that utilize AlphaSmart keyboards, digital still cameras, flatbed scanners and digital video cameras.

Brainworks

Connie Duggan, Jeanette Boucher

Abbot School Grades 3-6

This project presents basic physiology of the brain that raises awareness of learning styles and differences, thereby improving self-esteem, coping skills and acceptance of others. The project will use a combination of videos, books, games and models to help students understand how the brain works and how everyone has different learning styles.

Poetry Benches

Ippy Farnham

Millennium, Grade 3

This project will produce benches which will be decorated by the third grade students using poems that they write. The benches will be used outside the school office in the school playground.
